Dress watches are, for most of us, becoming less mandatory; better quality sports watches are generally accepted in all but the the most exclusive and highest environments. I’d say if you must wear cuff links to some meetings, the answer is probably “yes” you still need one. But few among us truly want a delicate dedicated and somewhat gaudy dress watch; thus robust (10 bar resistant) elegant pieces like the AP Royal Oak or Rolex Datejust make a lot of sense. Ahem. What? A month’s pay is too much for you? It is my misfortune to attend meetings with high level eastern European officials where watches are “currency” and this San Martin SN059 *FITS THE BILL*.
Mine is white Mother-of-Pearl with the PT5000 and custom logo and, i must say, Glenn and the San Martin team did a well-nigh perfect job, particularly on the case and bracelet. It is not a trivial challenge to get the fluted bezel perfectly shaped and polished, nor the links smoothly machined in the Presidential band. The dial could not be better, not just with my custom logo and printing generally but the applied indices and hands. Unusually for a dress watch the dial’s lume — while narrowly applied due to dress watch hands — is quite legible in the dark. The PT5000 movement, while not quite settled-in at this point, is keeping COSC time. I suspect that, since H&K does not offer PT5000 in movement grades, San Martin’s watchmakers (unlike other PT5000 users) regulate them while building the watch.
Do i recommend the SN-059? Let me put it this way: if they offered it in gold, i would buy another in a heart-beat to compliment this one. So “yes” if you have a desire/need for a classic silver dress watch for your next venture capitalist A-round conference, this would be my goto recommendation.
And, once you get the A-round funding, you may be sufficiently happy with the SN059 (and its custom dial) to pass on getting a real Rolex Datejust . . .

I got the SW200 version with the black MOP dial, and I must say, for it’s asking price the quality of the watch, especially the case and bracelet, is just astonishing, it’s very high quality.
For me personally there are only two drawbacks:
– Unfortunately this particular black MOP dial is a bit “dull” for my tastes (the blue one was sold out), but since MOP is a natural material I can’t complain, getting one you’ll love is like playing the lottery after all.
– The hidden clasp from the old version looked really nice, I wish this version also had one.
But really, those points are just nitpicking, I can really only recommend this watch.
I’ve owned and worn many watches from lots of price brackets, and in terms of manufacturing quality and comfort the watch can easily beat watches that cost much, much more.
I’ll gladly buy your watches again (if only my favourites weren’t sold out, the gold watch with the marble dial just looks breathtaking on the pictures), keep up the good work 🙂
